Up the airy mountain, down the rushy glen

Today I went on a walk with the Navigators – no, not a load of people plotting a course somewhere, but one of the societies I’ve joined here at Cardiff. “Navs”, as they are colloquially known, is a Christian group which does small group Bible studies, outings and stuff. The Navigators website can be found at http://home.navigators.org/us/.

Having loaded ourselves into the cars and wended our merry way through the streets of Cardiff, we eventually travelled up to the Brecon Beacons. Unfortunately the recent rain had turned footpaths into streams and swamps, so we splashed our way across the Welsh countryside. The walk we went on goes alongside a number of dramatic and beautiful waterfalls, and in one case, not only alongside, but behind. In doing so we all got very wet from all the spray!I really enjoyed it, and I enjoyed chatting with the different people – Tim, Susanna, Joanna, Becky, Joy, Stuart and the others whose names I can probably remember if I think about it but unfortunately I’m tired and that would be far too much effort! We talked about all sorts of things, from Uganda to beach missions to university lectureships to children’s books. We rounded it off with a visit to a nearby pub, for beer, tea or cola according to taste. As we pulled up in the car, we debated whether they’d mind wet and muddy walkers tramping in, and decided they were probably used to it… and then saw a sign up in the pub window saying they needed a cleaner!
